PORTALS OF REMEMBRANCE
Series of glazed ceramic sculptures
Earthenware glazed and sprayed ceramics
Ceramic arch H 240x D12x 22 x W 110cm
A series of glazed ceramic sculptures, formed from earthenware, glazed and spray-fired. The central ceramic arch, standing at H 240cm, D 12cm, W 110cm, is constructed from 37 individual, glazed tiles. This tactile piece depicts a transformative journey: figures shifting from human to extracelestial, embracing a heart-mapped globe. It is a vision, a portal to the future I yearn for – Earth united by love, not fractured by hate.
The creation of this portal was a journey in itself. The elusive consistency of the glaze and the restrictive dimensions of the kiln demanded constant adaptation, forcing the arch's division into these numerous tiles. The scattered fragments, remnants of the original arch's kiln collapse, were not discarded. They are integrated, essential parts of the whole, a testament to the process, to the fragility and resilience inherent in creation.
