PORTALS OF REMEMBRANCE

Series of glazed ceramic sculptures

Earthenware glazed and sprayed ceramics

Ceramic arch H 240x D12x 22 x W 110cm

The final sculpture of a ceramic arch comes in the form of 37 glazed ceramic tiles, a sculptural portal titled "Portals of Love." This tactile piece depicts figures embracing a globe adorned with hearts instead of continents. It symbolizes the future I envision and wish for Earth and its inhabitants, a world united by love and unity not by anger and hate. Creating this portal presented its own challenges. Achieving a consistent glaze colour proved difficult, and the kiln's dimensions forced me to adapt the archway's design hence the shape had to be divided in small tiles.

Pieces scattered around come from the original arch which broke in the kiln and part of it collapsed. I integrated them with the arch as although separate they are a part of it.
